Microsoft Teams Meeting Etiquette

To help everyone learn and participate successfully, follow these expectations during every Teams meeting.

1. Be On Time

• Log in a few minutes early.
• After 10 Minutes you will be marked absent and not allowed to join the class so please be on time.
• Note that sometimes the computer takes a while to load so prepare early to log in so you are not waiting for the computer to load and then not allowed into the class.
• Times that you logged in are logged so the teacher and staff will get a report when needed to confirm the exact times that you logged into the Chromebook as well as teams.
• Make sure your Chromebook, audio, and internet connection are working before class begins.
• Join the meeting as soon as your teacher opens it.

2. Keep Your Camera On 

• Position yourself so your face can be seen clearly.
• Sit in a well-lit area.
• Be prepared to participate and engage in class activities.  
• Time on Teams should be the same way that you would be if you were in the classroom.

3. Choose an Appropriate Learning Space

• Work in a quiet location whenever possible.
• Limit distractions from television, games, pets, or other activities.
• Keep the background appropriate for school.
• Also your attention should be on the class.  You should not be in a car, at work, doing dishes, etc.
• Your Teams should behave that you would in a traditional classroom.

4. Keep Your Microphone Muted

• Mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
• Unmute only when your teacher asks you to respond.
• This helps reduce background noise and distractions.

5. Be Respectful

• Listen carefully when others are speaking.
• Follow teacher directions.
• Use appropriate language at all times.
• Treat classmates and teachers with kindness and respect.

6. Use the Raise Hand Feature

• Click the Raise Hand button when you have a question.
• Wait for your teacher to call on you before speaking.
• Avoid interrupting others.

7. Ask Questions Appropriately

• Use the Raise Hand feature.
• Ask questions related to the lesson.
• Share constructive comments and feedback.

8. Use Chat Responsibly

• Use chat only for class-related questions and responses.
• Stay on topic.
• Do not send unnecessary messages, emojis, or side conversations.

9. Put Away Cell Phones when at home

• Cell phones should not be used during class unless instructed by the teacher.
• Avoid texting, gaming, or using social media during lessons.
• You should not be texting or playing on your phone while on teams.  Again, this should be the same if you were in a traditional classroom.

10. Stay Engaged

• Follow along with the lesson.
• Participate when asked.
• If you do not respond and are sitting there after the teacher calls on you with no responses; You will be removed from the class and marked absent from the class.
• If something is happening with your mic, then put your answer in the chat so the teacher knows that you are present for the class.
• Classes will be recorded so if you feel that you did pay attention and kicked out of class; administration can view the class and time to see if you were following protocol.
• Complete assignments and activities during class.
• Stay focused on learning.

11. Do Not Share Meeting Links

• Teams meeting links are for enrolled students only.
• Do not share links with friends or family members.
• Protect your account credentials and school information.

12. Exit Properly

• When class is over, click Leave.
• Close unnecessary tabs and applications.
• Prepare for your next class.

Remember: Your behavior in a virtual classroom should be the same as your behavior in a face-to-face classroom. Be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn.
